Three things Antonio Conte has to fix immediately at Tottenham Hotspur

(Football news) After losing 3-0 to Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur sacked manager Nuno Espírito Santo and straight away appointed Antonio Conte. The Italian had rejected Tottenham before the start of the season. Now after accepting the role, the big question is what is he being promised or given that wasn't offered the first time around. There is a slight possibility that it could be personal benefits like wages or termination cost but it is more likely that it is something related to football operations like transfer budget or control.

Conte has also been reunited with managing director Fabio Paratici with whom he enjoyed great success at Juventus. His first match will be the European Conference League fixture against Vitesse before the trip to Everton. Tottenham have had a number of problems this season. Here are 3 things Conte needs to fix immediately in order to succeed-

Defensive instability:

After keeping 3 clean sheets in the first 3 games against Manchester City, Wolves and Watford; Spurs have conceded 16 goals in 7 league games. It is almost certain that Conte will play a 3 at the back. He will have to choose center backs from Eric Dier, Cristian Romero, Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga. The system change will be music to Matt Doherty's ears as he will be more comfortable as a right wing back. Sergio Reguilon should be the undisputed left wing back.

Lack of midfield creativity:

Tottenham lack a proper consistent creative midfielder. Both Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele have been inconsistent for the past 2 seasons and Giovanni Lo Celso isn't a proper creative midfielder. Conte needs to find someone in the middle of the park who will bring that creative spark. He is likely to play 3 in midfield with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min at the top. Which is similar to his system at Inter Milan.

Harry Kane's lack of form:

Harry Kane clearly wanted to leave Spurs before the season but the move was blocked by the club. Since then Harry Kane has been the shadow of the player who had the most goals and most assists in the Premier League last season. The striker has scored only 1 League goal this season. There have been arguments about him not getting the service but the truth is that Kane hasn't been good enough this season. There have been examples in the past like Christian Eriksen where players who are kept at the club against their will do not perform up to their potential either consciously or subconsciously. Conte's arrival could be the game changer and maybe if the Italian gets the best out of him and makes spurs a top team again, Kane might change his decision and end up staying.

Conte needs to get the team near the top four and maybe even win a trophy. The Conference League would be decent but an FA Cup or Carabao cup will have a stronger impact. If Conte solves all the above problems then Spurs could be back to playing top level football once again.
