Robert Lewandowski marks 100th UCL appearance with rare goalscoring feat

(Football news) Robert Lewandowski played his 100th match in the UEFA Champions League against Benfica. He became the 42nd player to achieve this feat and what better to mark it with another goal scoring feat.

Lewandowski scored 3 goals and gave 1 assist in his 100th UCL game. He has also scored 81 UCL goals in the process. He joins the elite list of players to do so with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo being the only other players to score 80 plus UCL goals. Lewandowski also took less games than both the icons to do so. Now at the age of 33 Lewandowski is at the peak of his powers and will definitely end up scoring much more. The only thing that stands between him becoming the best goalscorer in the history of UCL is that Messi and Ronaldo despite being older than him are showing no signs of slowing down. Messi has scored 3 UCL goals this season while Ronaldo has scored 5.

Ever since the Polish striker burst onto the scene with Dortmund, he has been a force to reckon with. He then managed to reach a higher level with Bayern Munich. Over the past 2 years Lewandowski has been better than he has ever been. He led Bayern Munich to a treble in 2020 and was the undisputed favourite to win the Ballon d'Or before France Football cancelled the award. This year he has a chance to win his maiden Ballon d'Or.

Robert Lewandowski has only ever played in Poland and then in Germany. There have been rumours of him wanting to join the Premier League. Players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani have proved that there is no age limit to start a Premier League career. A move to England might be perfect for the striker to elevate his stature as a footballer.
