Since talks over a new contract have stagnated, Mohamed Salah, a striker for Liverpool, has reiterated that he is getting ready for this to be his final season with the Merseyside club.
“Probably coming back here, it’s my last year at the club so you want to do something special for the city,” Salah responded when asked by Sky Sports why winning the Premier League had taken precedence over the Champions League.
The Egypt international responded, “So far, yes,” when asked if he is certain that this is his last season with Arne Slot’s squad. I have six months left on my contract.
“No progress has been made there. We are a long way from making any headway. Thus, we simply have to wait and see.
Three important Liverpool players, including Salah, have contracts that expire at the end of the current campaign. Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold may both depart on free transfers in the summer of next year. Earlier this week, sources told ESPN that Liverpool had rejected a Real Madrid bid for the England international.
The three were instrumental in Liverpool’s 2019 Champions League victory and their 2019–20 Premier League championship campaign. During their tenure at Anfield, they have also won the UEFA Super Cup (2019), the Club World Cup (2019), the FA Cup (2022), and the Carabao Cup (2022, 2024).
With 45 points from their first 18 games, Liverpool leads the Premier League table by eight points at the start of 2025. On January 5, Slot’s team will play Manchester United.
