Shubman Gill Fined for Slow Over Rate in GT’s Win Over

Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill has been fined for maintaining a slow over rate during match 35 of IPL 2025 against Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

This was GT’s first over-rate offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate requirements. As a result, Gill has been handed a fine of INR 12 lakh, according to an IPL release.

With this, Gill joins a growing list of captains penalised for over-rate violations this season, including Axar Patel (DC), Sanju Samson (RR), Rajat Patidar (RCB), Rishabh Pant (LSG), Riyan Parag (RR), and Hardik Pandya (MI). Unlike last year, IPL 2025 has done away with suspensions for repeat offences, opting instead for demerit points, fines, and in-game penalties.

The match was played under scorching conditions in Ahmedabad, with temperatures touching 40°C. Gill had elected to bowl first, and there were several stoppages due to players struggling in the intense heat. DC posted 203 for 8, but GT chased down the target with seven wickets and four balls to spare. Jos Buttler anchored the successful chase with an unbeaten 97 off 54 balls, earning Player of the Match honours.

The win pushed GT to the top of the points table, level with DC on 10 points but ahead on net run rate. The fixture marked the halfway stage of the league phase, with all ten teams having completed seven matches.
