Kecmanovic: “I Love Estoril Open”

Miomir Kecmanovic, who is presently ranked 47th in the world, defeated Portuguese player Nuno Borges in a hard match this Friday to advance to the Millennium Estoril Open semifinals.  The final scores were 6-0, 6-7(7), and 6-4.  After the victory, the Serbian tennis player talked to media about his feelings on a contentious time during the match and how much he enjoyed the tournament.

“I performed admirably during the entire match.  I’m proud of myself for remaining composed and winning this match, and he did well at pivotal times,” Kecmanovic said.

“It was a bad decision; he would never have reached that ball,” the Serbian player said in response to a controversial ruling from the umpire.  There is nothing that can be done about the referee’s call.  I was bothered by it at the time, but I was able to get back to my game and win the match.

“Yes, it was tough,” Kecmanovic said, highlighting the difficulties of playing a hometown favorite. “He saved some match points, and the crowd felt that, so naturally they rallied behind him.”  Although it was undoubtedly difficult, I was the better player in that sense because I was able to maintain my composure.”  Kecmanovic said, “I really enjoy playing here,” expressing his affection for the Estoril venue.  I’m glad to be returning for the third time, and I’m hoping to bring home the crown this time.”  His performance was further clouded by his mention of a potential injury he may have suffered during the game.
