The idea that Jack Grealish’s absence from Manchester City’s team is because of off-field problems has been refuted by Pep Guardiola.
Grealish has been granted permission to look into transfer negotiations with other clubs in regards to a possible move away from the Etihad Stadium after being left off of the team’s FIFA Club World Cup squad.
Although Guardiola had previously expressed doubts about Grealish’s training performance, he now maintains that the only reason the midfielder has missed the last two years is because of the intense competition from other players, particularly Jérémie Dokú and Saïnyo.
He hasn’t been playing due of anything other than my decision, nor because he acted improperly. Although he is an excellent football player, players must compete with one another. Dokú was excellent in a lot of games last season, and Saïnyo improved greatly in his debut season,” Guardiola told ESPN.
Grealish’s contract with City is still in effect for another two years. He has been connected to a number of Premier League teams, such as Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, and Everton.
European teams like Napoli and Bayern Munich have also expressed interest. The 29-year-old could have to move out on loan initially, although City would prefer a permanent deal.
“I wish Jack, his partner, his kids, and his family the very best. I have no idea what will occur next. I am confident in his abilities. The treble-winning season would not have been possible without him,” Guardiola continued.
Recall that Jack Grealish paid €117.5 million to join Manchester City from Aston Villa in 2021. The Englishman has made 32 appearances this season, tallying three goals and dishing out five assists. He is now valued at €28 million by Transfermarkt.
