Rangana Herath Rejects Contract Offer from the BCB

(Cricket News) The Bangladesh Cricket Board said on Saturday, February 3, that Rangana Herath, their former spin bowling coach, had turned down their invitation to work with them once more.

Herath had earlier mentioned that he had received the BCB offer and will make a final decision following consultation with his legal counsel. However, he stated that, rather than serving as the spin coach for the national cricket team, he is thrilled to take on the job of spin mentor and work with slow bowlers across different age groups.

Unlike his former position as the national team’s spin coach, which he held annually, Herath was required to spend 200 days in Bangladesh coaching spinners throughout the nation, according to the terms of his new offer letter.

Following a meeting of the foreign coach recruitment committee at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus informed media that the renowned left-arm spinner from Sri Lanka is not prepared to return and participate in Bangladeshi cricket. “We are not with Herod. He (Herath) is no longer among us since he rejected the offer we presented to him, Yunus stated.

The BCB recently established a five-person group to attract foreign coaches, which includes David Moore, the head of the BCB programme, Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the chief executive, and two former national captains, Khaled Mahmud and Naimur Rahman. The other committee member is Yunus.

According to Yunus, they have narrowed down their list of potential coaches and will be conducting virtual interviews with them on February 6 in order to fill a number of coaching roles that became open after the contracts of international coaches expired.

The national cricket team needed an assistant coach for the next two years, therefore BCB posted job ads for a variety of roles, including analyst, batting coach, pace bowling coach, strength and conditioning coach, and analyst.

“We are in the process of filling the open posts and the head coach is scheduled to arrive on February 20. “Nizamuddin Chowdhury, our CEO, David Moore, Naimur Rahman, and I make up our committee,” Jalal stated. We sat down today and created a short list; interviews will be held shortly. On February 6, we will conduct virtual interviews with those on the short list.”
