Lockie Ferguson Likely Out of IPL 2025 with ‘Pretty Serious Injury’

Punjab Kings (PBKS) fast bowler Lockie Ferguson is unlikely to take any further part in IPL 2025 due to what has been described as a “pretty serious injury,” according to the team’s fast-bowling coach James Hopes.

Ferguson suffered the injury during PBKS’ recent match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Saturday. He bowled just two deliveries before pulling up in pain, clutching the area just below his left hip. After a brief on-field assessment with the physio, he was forced to leave the field and did not return.

“Ferguson is out indefinitely, and the chances of us getting him back by the end of the tournament are very slim, I would have thought,” Hopes said ahead of PBKS’ clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Mullanpur on Tuesday. “I think he has sustained a pretty serious injury.”

This latest setback adds to a worrying injury streak for Ferguson. He had only recently recovered from a hamstring injury sustained during the ILT20 in the UAE, which had already ruled him out of the Champions Trophy in February. It is his third injury since November 2024, following a prior calf issue that kept him out of New Zealand’s ODI series against Sri Lanka.

In IPL 2025, Ferguson featured in four matches, picking up five wickets with an economy rate of 9.17. His absence will be a big blow for PBKS, especially with the business end of the tournament approaching.
