Manchester United are willing to go big money this summer for prospect

Manchester United is prepared to pay around £115 million to acquire Xavi Simons, an attacker for RB Leipzig

(Football news) Manchester United were beaten 1-0 by Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon, succumbing to their 15th defeat of the Premier League season.

Manchester United failed to score for the third time in four top-flight matches, and their record of 38 goals scored makes them the sixth-worst offensive side in the division.

Boss Ruben Amorim has so far only been afforded one signing since joining the club in November last year, and he will undoubtedly need several additions to make his mark on the squad.

Multiple reports claim that Manchester United are interested in securing the services of Leipzig’s Simons, with the English side reportedly prepared to spend up to £115m to bring him to Old Trafford.

Simons in profile

Simons has often started on the left side of attack for Leipzig, playing behind a front two and being given licence to move inside the pitch.

The 21-year-old has scored nine goals and produced four assists in the Bundesliga this term, and no teammate has played more key passes in the league (46).

However, Simons is not the most physically gifted athlete, and he has at times struggled when trying to help his side out of possession.

Is Simons right for Manchester United?

Perhaps the Dutch attacker could be used behind a central striker, paired with Bruno Fernandes in one of two attacking midfield roles in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.

Simons’s ability to control the ball in tight spaces could complement Fernandes’s excellent passing ability, though it remains to be seen if signing the Leipzig attacker would be the best use of funds.

With question marks about goalkeeper Andre Onana, striker Rasmus Hojlund and midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, Amorim will need to carefully consider how best to add to his squad.
