Christopher Vivell is going to become the new Chelsea Director of Football

(Football news) Christopher Vivell is going to become the new technical director at Chelsea. The South London club have been chasing the signature of former RB Leipzig director even before he left Leipzig in October. The deal is finally nearing completion according to Fabrizio Romano. Todd Boehly is slowly but steadily transforming Chelsea behind the scenes and Christopher Vivell was always a person Boehly wanted to become part of the revolution.

According to Florian Plettenburg, the deal is now nearing completion. Todd Boehly has been pushing to get Vivell as he is taking up a similar role at Chelsea to the one he had at Leipzig. Vivell will be in charge of handling all the transfers, planning of the squad, scouting etc as Todd Boehly looks to help the club back into the elite few in the next few years. Vivell joins the likes of Joe Shields, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, and there are more personnel to be hired soon. For Chelsea, Vivell comes in with a lot of expectations after being highly rated from his time at Leipzig.

Vivell was also responsible for sister club RB Salzburg and TSG Hoffenheim before taking over the technical director role at Leipzig, he is going to take over the post from Marina Granovskaia, who was released by Boehly shortly after taking over the club. Chelsea owners were in pursuit of former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards while their talks with RB Salzburg's Christoph Freund also broke down last month. Boehly and Clearlake are very keen on building a multi-club model and Vivell's experience of working within a structure made him an obvious candidate. Chelsea are progressing in their squad rebuilding as they are interested in Leipzig striker Christopher Nkunku who is set to undergo medical tests earlier this week to move to Chelsea next summer.
