Big Week for Northern Virginia HS Sports

For Northern Virginia District sports fans, this week is sure to be unique because of the exciting variety of high school athletic activities that take place from May 12 to May 16.  Local teams are expected to enthrall spectators with their skill and tenacity in baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, and track & field.

Monday, May 12: The baseball action starts with an exciting lineup as Warren County visits Meridian for a 6:30 p.m. game and Skyline hosts Handley at 6 p.m.  At 6:30 p.m., Meridian plays Warren County in softball.  With Warren County at Handley at 4:30 p.m. and Handley at Warren County at 7 p.m., soccer fans may take advantage of a double bill.  Tennis fans may enjoy a feast of skill at a variety of sites, where boys’ and girls’ bouts start at 4:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, May 13, baseball fans may look forward to a number of exciting games, such as Millbrook vs. Skyline, Warren County vs. Sherando, Luray vs. Strasburg, and Page County vs. Stonewall Jackson. All games start at 6 p.m.  The evening will be filled with softball and soccer games, with girls’ soccer earlier in the day and boys’ soccer at 7 p.m.  Late afternoon tennis matches continue to highlight the district’s spirit of competition.

Wednesday, May 14: Baseball matchups like Rappahannock County at Stonewall Jackson and Strasburg at Clarke County add to the excitement.  Softball fans will find the doubleheader versus Handley at Skyline, which starts at 5 p.m., to be a highlight.  Track and field competitions at James Wood and Strasburg promise to bring out the best in young athletes, while soccer and tennis events will add to the excitement of the day.

 Thursday, May 15: The week takes a little break, with a highlight girls soccer match at 7 p.m. when Sherando comes to James Wood, giving teams an opportunity to show off their skills in front of the lights.

Friday, May 16: With Central at Staunton, Warren County at Manassas Park, and Sherando at Liberty, baseball will take center stage as the weekend draws near.  In the meanwhile, Sherando plays Liberty in both softball and tennis.  With Handley at Sherando for boys and Sherando at Handley for girls, soccer fans can expect fierce competitions that will ensure an exciting week-ending experience.

 The competitive spirit and athletic ability that are thriving in the Northern Virginia District are demonstrated by this exciting schedule.  As the season draws to a close, fans are urged to turn out and cheer on their teams, making memories that will last long after the last whistle.
