UAE Women Retire Out Entire Line-up in Record-Breaking Win Over Qatar

UAE

In a highly unusual and historic moment in international cricket, the UAE Women retired out all ten of their batters during a T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier match against Qatar in Bangkok, securing a massive 163-run victory.

Batting first, UAE openers Esha Oza and Theertha Satish put on a dominant unbeaten partnership of 192 runs in just 16 overs. Oza smashed a blistering 113 off 51 balls — her fourth T20I century — while Satish contributed a rapid 74 off 40. Then, in a move never before seen in international cricket, both openers voluntarily retired out, along with eight other players who didn’t even face a delivery. Since declarations aren’t permitted in limited-overs cricket, UAE used the retire-out rule to effectively end their innings.

This marked the first instance in men’s or women’s internationals where more than two players were retired out in an innings. The UAE’s 192 became the highest-ever all-out total in women’s T20Is, despite no actual dismissals occurring in the conventional sense.

Oza’s knock included 14 fours and five sixes, while Satish hit 11 boundaries. The team walked off after Oza smashed three fours in four balls to end the 16th over, with the scoring rate at a staggering 12 per over.

In response, Qatar crumbled for just 29 runs in 11.1 overs, with seven batters failing to score. Only opener Rizpha Bano Emmanuel offered resistance, scoring 20 before being run out. Spinner Michelle Botha claimed 3 for 11 as Qatar folded quickly, adding just three runs after Emmanuel’s dismissal at 26 for 5.

The match also set a record for the most ducks in a women’s T20I, with 15 — eight from UAE and seven from Qatar — in a game that lasted just 27.1 overs.
