Tennis great Novak Djokovic takes a time to pay tribute to the Indian batting legend’s incredible journey as he bids farewell to Test cricket. With the remark, “Incredible innings @virat.kohli,” Djokovic shared Kohli’s retirement photo on his Instagram story, emphasizing his respect for the cricket player’s accomplishments.
Despite never having met in person, Djokovic and Kohli have a deep admiration for one another that has been influenced by their supremacy in their respective sports during the 2010s as well as their common dedication to fitness and spirit of competition. Kohli once called their conversation “impromptu,” sharing how he messaged Djokovic on Instagram and was pleasantly pleased to hear back. Djokovic has also acknowledged the honor of messaging Kohli and thanked the cricket player for his warm remarks.
David Warner, Kohli’s longtime rival, also paid respects alongside Djokovic. Warner praised Kohli’s influence on the game and recalled their first meeting as young players: “Absolute legend of our game.” I believed this man was going to be fantastic, a fierce competitor, and someone that everyone would look up to.” He congratulated Kohli for motivating players worldwide and commended him for carrying on the tradition of great Indian cricketers.
The teammate and recipient of Kohli’s assistance, Mohammed Siraj, also expressed his sincere gratitude. Siraj referred to Kohli as his “superhero,” recognizing the enduring impact Kohli leaves behind and giving him credit for inspiring younger players during his playing career.
Prior to the forthcoming Test series against England beginning on June 20, India must fill the large shoes left by the retirement of both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket. The cricket community will be eager to see who will continue the tradition that two of India’s best batsmen left behind.
