Caretaker manager Skubala is set to remain in charge for Leeds United

Michael Skubala to stay in caretaker role at Leeds as manager search continues. Club impressed by performances since the sacking of Jesse Marsch and have identified five targets as a potential long-term replacement
Michael Skubala remains as the caretaker manager of Leeds

(Football news) Leeds United Caretaker manager Michael Skubala will remain in charge of Leeds United’s “upcoming fixtures,” as they face a 6 pointer with relegation rivals Everton. No head coach has been announced since Jesse Marsch was sacked last week. Leeds are only one place above the relegation zone as Michael Skubala has guided Leeds to one point from two matches which were both against Manchester United. Skubala, Gallardo and Armas took charge of the double-header against Manchester United, with Leeds drawing 2-2 at Old Trafford before losing at Elland Road.

It is understood that Leeds have identified five candidates in their search for Marsch’s replacement and four of those managers are currently in employment. Former Leeds assistant boss was the favourite to take over but Carlos Corberán has signed a new contract at West Brom. Another candidate was Arne Slot who opted to remain at Feyenoord and an approach for Rayo Vallecano head coach Andoni Iraola was blocked by the club. Celtic’s Ange Postecoglou had also been linked with the vacancy but nothing concrete as of now.

It was also understood that Leeds considered a short-term replacement for Marsch as former Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder, who watched Sunday’s defeat at Elland Road, had been in talks with the club but after a lot of consideration, he will not be taking up the vacant role. Leeds have been impressed with Skubala’s tactical tweaks and game plan clarity during his two games in charge. After weighing up all their options they have decided to stick with him as Gallardo and Armas will also continue with him as Leeds United will search for a long-term replacement.

“Michael Skubala has guided Leeds to one point from two matches, both against Manchester United. Paco Gallardo and Chris Armas will carry on supporting Michael, alongside the backroom team already in place,” the club said in a statement.

“I have really enjoyed the experience and the team and staff have responded well,” Skubala said. “It is an honour to be on the touchline at this club. We will continue to work tirelessly to help to push on up the table in the short term, whilst the board focuses on the long term future of the team,”
