(Sports news) In Uttar Pradesh, at the 3rd Khelo India University Games 2023, Reliance Foundation’s seven-member team demonstrated remarkable performance, earning a total of seven medals. Martin Owens, the Head Coach of the Odisha Reliance Foundation Athletics High Performance Center, expressed his satisfaction with the athletes’ achievements, emphasizing their dedication during training sessions. All seven participants from the center secured excellent placements in the competition.
Pragyan Prasanti Sahu, who recently impressed at the Senior Federation Cup in Ranchi, made a remarkable comeback by winning the gold medal in the 100m hurdles event with a time of 13.63 seconds. Abhishek Dalabehera secured third place in the 100m race and also surpassed the qualifying time for the upcoming Inter-State Athletics Championships in Bhubaneshwar.
Pragyan Sahu, reflecting on her victory, expressed the importance of her performance after narrowly missing out on a medal at the Senior Federation Cup. She emphasized the significance of a strong start and her motivation to maintain consistent performance and prepare for future competitions, while acknowledging the belief and support of her coach.
The 3rd Khelo India University Games featured approximately 4,000 athletes from 205 top universities across the country, competing in 21 different sports under the under-27 category. Reliance Foundation athletes showcased their talent and achieved remarkable results in multiple events, including Pragyan Prasanti Sahu winning gold in the Women’s 100m hurdles, Sushmita Tigga securing gold in the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase, and Manisha Merel earning gold in the Women’s Long Jump.
Laluprasad Bhoi and Abhishek Dalabehera claimed silver and bronze medals respectively in the Men’s 100m event. Swadhin Majhi achieved a silver medal in the Men’s High Jump, while Moumita Mondal clinched silver in the Women’s Long Jump. These athletes’ exceptional performances contribute to the success of the Reliance Foundation and highlight the positive impact of the collaboration between the Odisha Government and Reliance Foundation in supporting India’s top athletic talents through the Odisha Reliance Foundation Athletics High-Performance Center. With more than 50 athletes receiving training in various athletics disciplines, the center continues to produce outstanding results since its establishment.
