(Football news) The Round of 16 of the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League did not disappoint as PSG, Manchester United, RB Salzburg, Sporting CP, Inter Milan, Ajax, Juventus and Lille were eliminated. The quarter final draw presented some very interesting fixtures.
Manchester City vs. Atlético Madrid
Atletico Madrid got the better of Manchester United in the last round with a 2-1 aggregate win. Manchester City on the other hand dismantled Sporting CP with a 5-1. The tie will without question be Manchester City's attack vs Atletico Madrid's defence throughout the 180 minutes. If there is any team in the world that can stop Pep Guardiola's Manchester City from scoring, it is Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid. The key for City will be to not allow Atleti to go ahead in the game because as soon as they take the lead, Diego Simeone will shut the shops.
Chelsea vs. Real Madrid
Amidst all the ownership crisis, Chelsea got a comfortable win over Lille in the Round of 16. Real Madrid were 2nd best for the entire 1st leg and the first half of the 2nd leg against PSG but managed to turn it around in the last 45 minutes. The tie will also be the replay of last year's semi final where Chelsea got the better of Los Blancos. This time around is a completely different story as Real Madrid are runaway leaders of La Liga and are playing much better than they were last season while Chelsea at times have struggled this season.
Villarreal vs. Bayern Munich
Unai Emery's Villarreal did the unthinkable by eliminating Juventus by beating them 3-0 at the Allianz stadium in Turin. Bayern Munich on the other hand got a thumping 8-2 win over RB Salzburg. Villarreal will have to defend better than ever if they want to get the better of Bayern Munich. The Bavarian side despite being on top of the Bundesliga table have had quite a few hiccups this season. Villarreal have definitely shown that they belong at this level after winning the Europa League last season but it will take something very special to overcome the mighty Bayern.
Benfica vs. Liverpool
Liverpool narrowly edged Inter Milan in the last round and so did Benfica against Ajax. Jurgen Klopp's men are hunting for a quadruple this season and if Liverpool had a choice they would've picked Benfica. The Portuguese side will need to punch way above their weight to overcome this Liverpool side.
