Just as Jannik Sinner rejoins the ATP Tour after a three-month hiatus due to a contentious deal with WADA, Carlos Alcarez has returned to his peak performance.  With his primary competitor back in action, the young Spaniard is thriving. He won two Masters 1000 titles in Monte Carlo and Rome, as well as his second Roland Garros trophy, during the red clay season, showcasing his greatest tennis.

Alcaraz demonstrated he is still the best player on clay, even though Sinner advanced to the finals in both Rome and Paris.  After an amazing battle on Sunday, he raised his fifth Grand Slam trophy at the young age of 22.

Sinner has increased his lead in the ATP rankings in spite of Alcaraz’s victory.  The Italian from Sesto Pusteria, who improved on last year’s quarterfinal finish in Paris by making it to the final this time, currently leads the Spaniard by 2,030-points.  Alcaraz, meanwhile, only succeeded in defending his Roland Garros title points.

In the upcoming weeks, the distance between these two growing stars may get much wider.  Sinner lost to DANIIL MEDVEDEV in the Wimbledon quarterfinals last year, while Alcaraz, who has won the last two tournaments, must defend his title.

Alcaraz has a genuine chance to retake the top spot in the ATP rankings if he can put on impressive performances in August.  Tennis fans should expect an interesting summer as the competition for supremacy intensifies once more as both players push one another.
