Tottenham Hotspur fail to score at home and lose 1-0 on aggregate

AC Milan secured a professional 0-0 draw as Tottenham Hotspur were very average on the day
Tottenham Hotspur Vs AC Milan

(Football news) Tottenham Hotspur will now go another season without winning a trophy as they were knocked out of the Champions League Round of 16 by AC Milan. In the 1st leg at San Siro, Brahim Diaz’s goal was enough to secure a 1-0 win for Milan. Tottenham Hotspur in that game were very lackluster in attack as they didn’t create clear cut chances. The 2nd leg was pretty much the same story as Tottenham never looked like scoring. Eric Dier was suspended as Clement Lenglet started in defense. AC Milan on the other hand started in a 3-4-3 as expected.

Tottenham Hotspur only had 2 shots on target on a night that they had to score. The first half was pretty much a stalemate as Milan defended their lead well. Christian Romero was sent off in the 77th minute which made it that much more difficult for Spurs. Antonio Conte’s tactics have to be questioned as despite needing a goal he brought on centre back Davinson Sanchez for attacker Dejan Kulusevski. Harry Kane had a header saved by Mike Maignan in the 94th minute which was Tottenham Hotspur’s biggest chance across 2 legs. Milan have made it to the UCL quarter finals for the first time since 2012 which is a big step.

Antonio Conte’s contract is expiring at the end of the season and now it is looking highly unlikely that he will get a renewal. Injuries have definitely played a big part in Tottenham’s dip in form but this squad is definitely better than they are playing at the moment. Tottenham Hotspur need someone who can make the most of limited resources and Conte simply isn’t that man. Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino have been linked with the job. As of now Spurs need to focus on finishing in the top 4 which will not be an easy task.
