PSG's wait for a Champions League trophy goes on as Bayern Munich get a comfortable win
PSG Vs Bayern Munich

(Football news) Bayern Munich defeated PSG 2-0 at the Allianz Arena to secure a spot in the Champions League quarter finals. PSG have now been knocked out of the Champions League Round of 16 for the 2nd season in a row and for the 5th time in the last 7 seasons. Christophe Galtier went with a 3-5-2 as expected with Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi up front. Danilo Pereira played as the third center back along with Sergio Ramos and Marquinhos. Julian Nagelsmann on the other hand played Bayern Munich in a 4-2-3-1. He left the likes of Sadio Mane, Joao Cancelo, Leroy Sane and Serge Gnabry on the bench.

The first half was played at a very high tempo as both goalkeepers made a couple of saves. Disaster struck for PSG when captain Marquinhos had to go off due to a hip injury. He was replaced by Nordi Mukiele who also had to be replaced at half time. Just before halftime PSG had a massive chance as Yann Sommer gave the ball straight to Vitinha but his shot was cleared off the line by Matthijs de Ligt. Bayern Munich came out with much more intent in the 2nd half. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting had a goal disallowed by VAR as Thomas Muller who was in an offside position was deemed to have interfered with the play.

Choupo-Moting did get his goal in the 61st minute to give Bayern Munich a 2-0 aggregate lead. Marco Verrati was deposed by Thomas Muller who played for Leon Goretzka. The German midfielder played a square pass to Choupo-Moting who converted the easy chance. PSG turned up the heat but they couldn’t create enough clear cut chances. PSG’s biggest attacking threat was center back Sergio Ramos which says a lot. The tie was put to bed as Joao Cancelo assisted Serge Gnabry who made it 3-0. to Bayern Munich.

The result is disastrous for PSG who can now only win the League. The biggest issue is the manner of the defeat as the French club failed to score across two legs despite having so much attacking talent on display. Christophe Galtier’s future will be under the scanner while Kylian Mbappe’s exit rumors will also return. Veterans Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos are out of contract at the end of the season, it will be interesting to see if their renewals are affected by this loss.
