Rumana Ahmed, an experienced all-rounder, has been left out of Bangladesh’s squad for the forthcoming Women’s T20 World Cup. The 15-player roster revealed on Wednesday includes Taj Nehar and Disha Biswas, two uncapped players, according to the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
In addition to Rumana, the 2024 Asia Cup players Rubey Haider, Sharifa Khatun, Sabikun Nahar, and Ishma Tanjim are left off the squad for the massive competition, which kicks off on October 3. The remaining five players all played for Bangladesh in the recently concluded Asia Cup, however, they were unable to take advantage of their chances. Ishma and Rumana appeared in four and three matches respectively, while Sabikun received two games. Rabeya and Sharifa each played one game, earning scores of 0 and 5.
Instead, Sobhana Mostary, Fahima Khatun, and Shathi Rani have been brought back to the team by the selectors. Fahima and Mostary last played for Bangladesh in the series against India in May, though the former hasn’t appeared in an international match since September of last year.
On October 3, Bangladesh, who did not make it to the Asia Cup final this year, will play Scotland in Sharjah to start their World Cup campaign. On October 5, 10, and 12, respectively, they will play against South Africa, West Indies, and England. Before they go to Dubai for their final group stage match, they will play their first three games in Sharjah.
