A tough couple of weeks awaits for Real Madrid with several key figures' future uncertain
Real Madrid

(Football news) Real Madrid have had a mediocre season by their standards. Los Blancos won the Copa Del Rey, the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup but they have been way below par in La Liga. A Champions League semi final finish is respectable but the fact that they were completely outplayed in that game against Manchester City has made it all sour.

The struggle isn’t over as Real Madrid have a lot of uncertainties for next season. They still have one La Liga game left and things are likely to become more clear after that is done. President Florentino Perez and CEO Jose Angel Sanchez will be very busy for the next couple of weeks and maybe longer.

The first doubt is regarding the continuity of Carlo Ancelotti. Throughout the 2nd half of the season when Real Madrid were struggling Ancelotti’s future was always questioned. The Italian himself has always been clear that he will stay and see out his contract. However sources close to Real Madrid say that the board has had doubts.

After the UCL elimination, reports came out that Ancelotti will be back but now things have changed. Brazil have always said that Carlo Ancelotti is their first choice and they will wait for him till 2024 if they have to. Carlo Ancelotti’s staff has their doubts regarding the board’s intention especially in regards to whether they will give them the signings needed.

The departure list is getting more and more complicated. Mariano whose contract ends at the end of this season will leave as it has been clear for a while. Marco Asensio has rejected the renewal offer because he wants more game time in his preferred number 10 position. Nacho and Dani Ceballos haven’t accepted a new contract as they want more game time. The likelihood according to the sources is that both of them will leave. Karim Benzema’s renewal was always said to be certain since the beginning of the season.

According to reports he had a verbal agreement in place however things have changed. A lucrative offer from a Saudi Arabian club which he is seriously considering. Things will completely change if Benzema decides to leave Real Madrid. Since January Luka Modric and Toni Kroos’ renewal is said to be immenint but now with what’s happening with Benzema nothing can be taken for granted. Real Madrid want to get rid of Eden Hazard but the player wants to stay. Alvaro Odriozolo and Jesus Vallejo are also dead wood but there are no concrete reports on their departure. Real Madrid reportedly want to sell Ferland Mendy which could bring some funds into the club.

In terms of the incomings, Fran Garcia will return to Real Madrid as confirmed by Carlo Ancelotti. Jude Bellingham’s negotiations are in the final stages and he could be announced in a couple of weeks. Brahim Diaz’s return is complicated as AC Milan want to keep him and the player wants to stay there. Real Madrid want to sign a striker but if Benzema leaves then they will need at least two strikers. Harry Kane, Roberto Firmino and Joselu are three of the most prominent names on the list. Real Madrid are reportedly also looking for another left back and Alphonso Davies is on the list. His signing is very complicated as Bayern Munich may not want to sell him.
