Ravi Shastri: Shubhman Gill could break Kohli’s season record for most runs

By using the hashtag #AskStar, viewers and fans had the thrilling opportunity to ask former Indian head coach and Star Sports analyst Ravi Shastri questions on the TATA IPL 2023

(Cricket news) The two left-handers Tilak Varma and Sudharshan—one is 20 years old, the other is 21—have been a lot of fun to watch, according to former India Head Coach Ravi Shastri, who shared his thoughts on who has been the standout performer thus far in the TATA IPL 2023 during a Q&A session through #AskStar. They have the potential to be good players since they look to have a bright future, which is demonstrated by their maturity and disposition.

Irfan Pathan, a former all-rounder for India, was asked who in the TATA IPL 2023 who has most impressed him. He responded, “One is probably Tilak Varma, he has impressed us a lot. Both last year and this year, he batted effectively. Even so, he has a great attitude. He appears to have the potential to lead in the future. The second is Jurel, whose batting style from his first innings left me unable to comprehend the calibre of his shots while under duress. Even though it’s still early on, that one boy has impressed, and these are encouraging signals.”

When asked what made Vijay Shankar unique and why the selectors chose him for the 2019 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup, Ravi Shastri, the former head coach of India, responded, “In my opinion, the selectors thinking was such that, just like his innings that we have seen in this year’s IPL, that kind of innings plus his bowling is a big factor in his getting selected. He fractured his toe during his injury at the 2019 World Cup, which kept him out for a while. He has the talent, he has worked hard to get back to his best, and, as you may recall, India was looking for a player who could replace Hardik, give the team at least two or three overs, and bat well. As a result, Shankar was always kept on standby in case Hardik got hurt so that there would be a good replacement.”

Whoever surpasses Virat Kohli’s record for the most runs scored in a single season must bat in the opening position, according to Shastri, “because only then will he have a lot of possibilities to do so. Subhman Gill, who plays first in the order and is in good form, seems to be the culprit, in my opinion. He will therefore have plenty of chances to score runs. The pitches are sound, so if he can score 80–100 runs in a row over the course of two or three innings, he will have 300–400 runs at that point alone. The fact that opening batsmen will get two extra matches and two extra innings means that opening batsmen can only break this record if it is possible. In my opinion, it is highly challenging to break the record because 900+ runs is a significant number of runs.”
