(Cricket news) On Wednesday, Paarl Royals defeated Joburg Super Kings quite comfortably, chasing down a total of 168 with an over and five wickets to spare. The Royals continue their dominance winning five out the six games and reaffirming their status as the team to beat in the second season of the SA20.
The 95-run fourth-wicket partnership between Wihaan Lubbe (57 off 48) and Dane Vilas (42 off 26), proved to be the match-defining partnership for the Royals, after their struggles in the first half of the innings. Royals lost 3 wickets at the end of the 8th over with just 55 runs on the board. Lubbe and Vilas then stitched a wonderful partnership to take their team home.
Vilas, scoring his runs at a strike-rate of 161.54 proved to be the more aggressive of the two batters, while Lubbe struck three timely sixes. The equation for them was still challenging with 57 off the final five when Lizaad Williams stepped up to bowl. However the over from Williams turned out to be a 21-run over and made things a lot easier for the Paarl Royals and shut the Super Kings out of the contest.
The result extended what has been a poor season for the Super Kings, who just have a solitary win to show from their six games. JSK’s skipper, Faf du Plessis admitted after the game, that they’d gotten to an above-par score on a difficult surface kudos to Reeza Hendricks’ sizzling unbeaten 79 off 56 deliveries. Leus du Plooy and Moeen Ali scored good knocks themselves, but it all turned out to be useless in the end as their team was handed yet another defeat.
Brief scores:Joburg Super Kings 168/3 in 20 overs (Reeza Hendricks 79*; Andile Phehlukwayo 1-18) Paarl Royals 171/5 in 19 overs (Wihaan Lubbe 57, Dane Vilas 42; Moeen Ali 2-31)
