Nic Pothas in charge of Bangladesh for second SL Test

(Cricket News) Assistant coach Nic Pothas will take charge of the Bangladesh side for their second test against Sri Lanka. The head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe will miss the second and the final test of the series starting on the 30th March. Hathurusinghe would head home due to ‘personal reasons’.

In the long multi-format tool Bangladesh has won the ODI series while Sri Lanka won the T20I series by identical 2-1 margins. Bangladesh suffered a heavy 328-run defeat on the fourth afternoon of the first test at Sylhet. The second test is scheduled to be played at Chattogram starting from Saturday.

Hathurusinghe has been in the Bangladesh setup since February last year, where he took up the job for the second time. The first time when he was in charge was from June 2014 to October 2017. He has also been a part of the Sri Lankan setup and has also worked closely with the New South Wales, as a batting coach.

Nic Pothas, who currently in the assistant coach of Bangladesh, joined the side in 2023 April. He has had stints with the West Indies and Sri Lankan side as well, as an interim head coach.

Bangladesh has made some changes in their squad as well ahead of the second game. They have added in their most experienced player, Shakib Al Hasan, as he makes a comeback in the longest format of the game, after a long time off due to his bad eye conditions. He has been brought into the Test squad as a replacement for Towhid Hridoy. Hasan Mahmud has also come in for the injured Musfik Hasan, who is out with a left ankle injury.
