Shakib Al Hasan named in the Bangladesh squad for the 2nd Test against Sri Lanka

(Cricket News) The veteran Bangladesh all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan makes his return in the Bangladesh test squad, after being named for the 2nd test against Sri Lanka. He has been out from the longest format, since an year, and has finally been added for the 2nd test starting from the 30th of March in Chattogram. An eye condition kept him away from Tests, although he has been playing in the white-ball format recently.

Towhid Hridoy has been left out from the squad, as Shakib takes his place for the upcoming test. The other change in the squad is pace bowler Hasan Mahmud coming in for the injured and uncapped Musfik Hasan, who has hurt his left ankle and requires some treatment and rehabilitation. Mahmud has played a total of 39 white-balls games, but is still uncapped when it comes to the longest format of the game.

Shakib is one of the most experienced players in the Bangladeshi lineup and has represented his nation in a total of 66 tests so far. He last featured in the longest format, an year ago, in April 2023, when Bangladesh played hosts to Ireland. His addition to the squad will be an additional boosts for the home side leading into the second game.

His last international assignment was the ODI World Cup in India late last year. Since then, he has played the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), where he represented the Rangpur Riders and also featured in two games for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division League.

His missed out of the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka because of his eye condition.
