NBA: Warriors defeat the Timberwolves and the Lakers lose without LeBron

(Basketball news) The Lakers suffered their 25th loss of the season after they lost to the Philadelphia 76ers 105-87. For the 76ers, Embiid had 26 points and nine rebounds as his teammates Tobias Harris scored 23 points and Ty Maxey had 14 points and 10 assists. For the Lakers, Anthony Davis scored 31 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Davis went off 10 of 13 in the first half – the Lakers made 20 buckets – for 23 points. The 37-year-old James is day to day with a sore left knee. James is second in the league in scoring at 29.1 points per game, on pace for his highest average since the 2009-10 season, and has scored at least 25 points in 18 straight games. With this result the Lakers fell below .500 as they have a record of 24-25 and currently lie 9th in the Western Conference standings.

''I was not very good tonight, so I was happy my teammates were able to pick me up,'' Embiid said.

''I like to score the ball,'' Embiid said. ''I have a score-first mentality. If they're double- or triple-teaming, I'm going to make the right play.''

''He's a big part of what we're trying to do,'' Davis said. ''It sucks not having him but it gives us a chance to see what we have without him. We definitely want to take advantage of these moments.

''It's always fun playing against another great big,'' Davis said. ''He's been on a tear. Putting the team on his back. We knew it was going to be a tough matchup going in.''

“His conditioning, last year, when I came in, we challenged him and he took it,'' Rivers said. ''This year, we challenged him even more and he's taking it up.''

The Golden State Warriors beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 124 -115. For the Warriors, Stephen Curry found his sweet shooting stroke again after a rough stretch as Curry scored 29 points, Thompson added 23 points as Wiggins added 19 points, five rebounds, four assists. Curry shot 6 for 10 from long range – 10 of 20 overall – after going 3 for 23 on 3s his previous two games. He also contributed eight rebounds and six assists. For the Timberwolves, Anthony Edwards had 27 points as Karl Anthony Towns had 31 points in the match. With this result the Warriors improved their record to 36-13 as they occupy the 2nd place in the Western Conference table.

''With Klay, it's easy to play with him because he's obviously an amazing scorer, amazing shooter, commands a lot of attention out there,'' Curry said. ''The hardest part is just trying to keep things simple because you can always try to do something special on every possession and there's where you get in trouble and we have a tendency to do that from time to time.''

''It's special. The NBA's never seen shooters like them,'' Wiggins said of the Splash Brothers. ''Playing alongside them, it's fun. You never know what's going to happen, you don't know what crazy shots they're going to make. We know the energy they bring to the team and the energy they bring to the building, the arena, everyone just feeds off them and from there we get going.''

''Klay, he was great against Dallas the other night and tonight he was even better, so he's adapting quickly and I loved his drive and kicks, he made some excellent passes,'' Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. ''It's fun to see Klay and Steph back together and it's really fun to see Wiggs with them, I think he complements them really well.'
