(Tennis News) Indian Davis Cup team concluded its historic visit to Pakistan, marking 60 years since their last trip, by securing a place in World Group I. India dominated Pakistan 4-0, with Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni securing a comfortable victory, and Niki Poonacha making a successful debut in Islamabad on Sunday. With a 2-0 lead, Bhambri and Myneni defeated the home team in the doubles rubber, extending India’s dominance over Pakistan in the tournament.

Aqeel Khan replaced Barkat Ullah, aiming to bring experience to the do-or-die match. However, Bhambri and Myneni displayed exceptional performance, highlighting the evident difference in quality between the two teams. Poonacha then played and won the dead fourth rubber against Muhammad Shoaib, securing countries eighth consecutive win in the event. The fifth match was not played.

The team’s victory means they will compete in World Group I in September, while Pakistan will remain in Group II. The Indian team adapted well to the challenging conditions and heavy security, with the Pakistan Tennis Federation ensuring a safe and incident-free historic tie.

Captain Zeeshan Ali praised the organization and expressed gratitude to the Pakistan Tennis Federation for being excellent hosts. Bhambri and Myneni maintained control throughout the contest, breaking Aqeel in the first and fifth games of the doubles rubber, securing a commanding 4-1 lead. Despite a tie-breaker challenge in the second set, Bhambri and Myneni ensured a decisive 5-5 score, sealing India’s victory.
