(Football news) Chelsea have officially completed the signing of Joao Felix on loan. The London club have signed him in a hope of rescuing the current season. Felix’s departure was always on the cards ever since Atletico Madrid’s president publicly said that the relationship between Felix and manager Diego Simeone isn’t a good one. Felix extended his Atletico Madrid contract till 2027 before signing the loan deal.

Chelsea will cover his salary and pay 11m to Atletico Madrid and they don’t have a buy option. The move makes perfect sense for both Joao Felix and Atlético Madrid because according to reports Diego Simeone could leave after this season which means Felix can return to Madrid and play under a new manager.

Chelsea have spent a lot of money on the signings but it may not be exactly what they need. Chelsea’s main issue this season has been goal scoring and while Felix is an excellent forward he isn’t necessarily a goal scorer. He is a similar player to Raheem Sterling or even a Kai Havertz. Felix can play anywhere in the front 4 but he isn’t someone who will score goals consistently.

The signing is a little bit desperate but it is understandable as Chelsea’s season is going nowhere. Joao Felix has been playing regular football which means that he could become a starter straight away. It will be interesting to see what position Graham Potter finds the most suitable for him.

Chelsea have reportedly already agreed a deal for Christopher Nkunku in the summer. With the absence of a buy option it is pretty clear that Felix is a short term fix just to get top 4 this season. For Joao Felix it is a very good opportunity to play in an attacking team. Despite having some good moments with Atletico Madrid, Felix cannot be considered a success. The contract extension suggests that there is likely to be a future for him at the club but a lot will depend on what he does in these 6 months with Chelsea.
