Hawks Target Raptors’ Ujiri for Exec Role

Masai Ujiri, the driving force behind the Toronto Raptors’ incredible run to the 2019 NBA championship, is the target of the Atlanta Hawks, who are now searching for a new president of basketball operations.

The Hawks quickly promoted Onsi Saleh to general manager after firing Landry Fields, the team’s previous general manager, this summer.  However, they are still searching for a strong leader to lead their front office, so the hunt is far from done.  It remains to be seen if the Hawks can entice Masai Ujiri to leave his Toronto stronghold, but he is a strong candidate for this coveted position.

Ujiri has a legendary reputation in the NBA.  He has carved quite a career since joining the Raptors in 2013 following a tenure with the Denver Nuggets. He has guided Toronto to a 545-419 record, eight postseason appearances, and their illustrious first NBA championship.

The Hawks haven’t put all their eggs in one basket, though, as they’ve listened to other big names like Calvin Booth and Monte McNair, who were recently hired as general managers of the Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings, respectively.

If Atlanta is successful in acquiring Ujiri’s leadership, it will surely be one of the most significant offseason changes, demonstrating their intense determination to move past their recent playoff disappointments.  After the Miami Heat crushed the Hawks’ hopes in the play-in game previous season, the team has been excluded from the postseason celebration for the past two years.
