Shafali named in T20I squad for England tour but misses out of ODIs

Shafali Verma has made a comeback to India’s T20I squad for the upcoming tour of England, marking her first inclusion since the Women’s T20 World Cup last year. Sneh Rana also returns to the T20I side for the first time since the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup. They are part of the 15-member T20I squad for the white-ball tour, which commences on June 28th.

The T20I squad also includes maiden call-ups for seam-bowling all-rounders Kranti Goud and Sayali Satghare, as well as left-arm spinners N Shree Charani and Shuchi Upadhyay. Shree Charani and Upadhyay were recently part of the ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka that India won, while Goud was a late addition to that squad due to an injury to Kashvee Gautam.

Shafali had been out of the national team since the ODI series against New Zealand last year. Since then, she has displayed strong form in domestic cricket, topping the run charts in both the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy and the Senior Women’s One Day Challenger Trophy while captaining Haryana. She also performed well in WPL 2025 for Delhi Capitals.

Sneh Rana’s inclusion in the T20I squad comes on the back of her performance in WPL 2025, where she played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru as an injury replacement and made significant contributions with both bat and ball. She was also the Player of the Series in the recent ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka.

Harleen Deol, a regular in the ODI side at No. 3, returns to the T20I squad for the first time since July 2024, following a decent showing in WPL 2025 for Gujarat Giants. Raghvi Bist, Uma Chetry, and Minnu Mani, who featured in India’s last T20I series against West Indies, have not been included in the England-bound squad.

Despite her strong performances, Shafali continues to be omitted from India’s ODI squad for the England tour, which remains largely unchanged after their successful tri-series campaign. Sayali Satghare is the only new addition to the ODI team, having made her debut earlier this year.

Pratika Rawal is set to open the batting with Smriti Mandhana in the ODI format, with Harleen Deol expected to bat at one down. Yastika Bhatia will serve as the backup wicketkeeper to Richa Ghosh, and Tejal Hasabnis is the reserve batter in the ODI squad.

The spin bowling department for both T20Is and ODIs will be led by Deepti Sharma and Sneh Rana, with Shree Charani and Shuchi Upadhyay also included. There was no update provided on the fitness of fast bowlers Renuka Singh, Pooja Vastrakar, and Titas Sadhu, who were previously left out of the tri-series due to injuries.

The India Women’s tour of England will consist of five T20Is followed by three ODIs, overlapping with the men’s Test series. This ODI series is India’s last scheduled series before they host the Women’s World Cup later this year.
