Alcaraz’s Dad Admits: “It’s All Surreal”

With 42 victories and five trophies, including one at Garros, Carlos Alcaraz has swept the tennis world in 2025.  The 22-year-old talent from Murcia is presently ahead of world number one Jannik Sinner in the Race to the ATP Finals.  Even those closest to him didn’t anticipate his quick climb to prominence.

Alcaraz’s father, Carlos Alcaraz González, recently gave an honest account of his early aspirations and experiences in a little video that was created by one of his sponsors.  Carlos would frequently ask me to play on Saturday afternoons and Sundays when I was a child.  “I remember getting frustrated with him a lot,” he remembers, laughing.  “He kept saying, ‘No, I don’t want to go home yet, I want to play one more game.'”  To be honest, I didn’t initially have such high expectations.

After seeing a crucial match in Carlos’s early tennis career, his perspective started to change.  His father says, “When you were ten years old, it was the first Nike circuit tournament in Madrid.”  “After watching your opponent perform in previous rounds, I concluded that we wouldn’t go past this.  However, I contacted your mother after the game and said, “You can’t imagine how your son played—he completely outplayed his rival.”  I then understood that you had a real chance of making it as a professional tennis player.

In addition, Carlos’s brother Álvaro shares his thoughts about their competitive upbringing in the documentary: “I was competing and saw that the little guy, four years younger than me, was catching up and even beating me.”  The movie ends by showcasing Alcaraz’s significant triumphs and commemorating his rise from the Club de Campo Murcia, where he received his training, to his present position as a Wimbledon champion.
