According to ESPN, Atletico Madrid and Real Betis have verbally agreed to sign Johnny Cardoso, a midfielder for the United States.
As Atletico seeks to bolster their midfield for the next campaign, Cardoso has long been a top transfer target for Diego Simeone. The 23-year-old and the Madrid team have already reached an agreement on personal conditions, and they have agreed on a transfer cost of more than €30 million.
Given his expertise in La Liga despite his youth, Johnny is seen by Atletico as the perfect complement. The midfielder, who was born in New Jersey and has an Italian passport, left Brazilian team Internacional to join Betis in January 2024. His contract was extended to June 2030 as a result of his steady performances at Seville.
Cardoso played in 46 games the previous season, tallying four goals and dishing out one assist. In addition, he has 22 caps for the United States. He is now valued at €25 million by Transfermarkt.
