(Cricket news) The seasoned middle-order batter Hanuma Vihari, who has represented the national side at the highest level, has vowed not to play for Andhra again after the ongoing rift with the ACA. He was removed from the captaincy post Andhra’s victory over Bengal last month.
Vihari was involved in an incident with a young Andhra player, on whom he expressed his anger in a moment of frustation. The player’s father who is said to be politician lodged a complaint in the ACA against the skipper stating that he used foul language. In return the state board revoked the seasoned players captaincy. Vihari expressed feeling humiliated by the Andhra Cricket Association.
“I felt embarrassed, but I continued playing this season out of respect for the game and my team. Unfortunately, the association believes that players must adhere to their directives unquestioningly, asserting that players owe their positions solely to the association. Feeling humiliated, I have decided that I will never represent Andhra again, where I lost my self-respect. I still hold affection for the team,” said Vihari.
Ricky Bhui was appointed as skipper of the side by the ACA selectors. He led the Andhra side that recently lost the Quarter finals of the Ranji trophy. Vihari has been a part of the Andhra setup for a long time and has represented the side in 37 games scoring 2733 runs. He said he will decide on his future team later. “There is a lot of time left for this call.”
