Spurs aim to bounce back after CL loss with win over Leicester City

(Football news) After a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Sporting CP in the Champions League, Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to bounce back when they welcome Leicester City to North London. The Foxes are also in extremely poor form and are currently rock bottom of the Premier League table with just a single point, having drawn 1 and lost 5 games so far. The pressure is firmly on Brendan Rodgers to turn their season around or lose his job and he will set up his side to avoid another defeat at any cost.

As for Spurs, they are currently level with Manchester City with 14 points and remain unbeaten in the Premier League. They could potentially be level on points or even ahead of Manchester City  and at the top of the table depending on how the result goes before Arsenal face Brentford on Sunday. While the team are struggling to score goals, Conte will take solace in the fact that his side have a seven game winning streak across all competitions at home but fatigue might play a factor in the match.

To say that Leicester City are in a crisis situation would be an understatement. Rodgers is struggling to get the best out of his underperforming squad and the club’s financial woes have meant that they have been unable to strengthen the team over the summer. The team have conceded an astonishing 16 goals in the league so far with only Bournemouth (18) having a worse defensive record.

In team news, Rodgers is only missing long term absentees Ricardo Pereira and Ryan Bertrand but Dennis Praet appears to have recovered from a foot injury. Patson Daka and Kelechi Iheanacho are expected to retain their place in the starting XI while underperforming Jamie Vardy may have to settle for a place on the bench. With Daniel Amartey returning to fitness, Rodgers could opt for a three man backline while Caglar Soyuncu’s status remains unconfirmed after his move to Turkey fell through.

For Tottenham, Lucas Moura is unavailable for selection until after the international break due to a tendon problem. Misfiring Son Heung-min could retain his place in the team while Dejan Kulusevski is expected to feature on the bench. Conte could opt to give chances to Ryan Sessegnon and Yves Bissouma for this fixture and freshen up his side after their Champions League match earlier this week. Despite Spurs’ difficulty of finding the back of the net, they have enough quality to secure a win in this fixture and remain in contention for a Champions League spot for next season.
