(Football news) It was another stellar matchweek in the Premier League. Chelsea remain on top of the table followed by Liverpool and Manchester City. Manchester United dropped to 7th place after embarrassment at home against Liverpool.
Chelsea hit 7 past Norwich City to retain their top spot. Thomas Tuchel's men showed no mercy as they completely dominated the bottom placed side. Mason Mount hit a hat-trick after not finding the back of the net in his last 25 games. Callum Hudson Odoi, Reece James and Ben Chilwell scored one each while Max Aarons scored an unfortunate own goal. The Blues did this without their 2 strikers Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku. Chelsea play Southampton in the Carabao cup before traveling to Newcastle in the League.
Manchester City got a comfortable 4-1 away at Brighton. Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring in the 13th minute before Phill Foden scored twice to make it 3-0. Mac Allister scored from the spot to get a consolation. Riyad Mahrez scored in injury time to seal the 3 points. City's next game is against West Ham away in the Carabao cup. Former assistant coach Patrick Vieira will return to the Etihad on Saturday as Manchester City will host Crystal Palace.
West Ham managed to edge Tottenham in the London derby. Michael Antonio's 72nd minute header from a corner was enough to secure 3 points. Spurs couldn't break through despite dominating 62% possession. What is worse from a Tottenham point of view is that West Ham didn't play up to their potential but still managed to win 1-0. Tottenham are staring down a dark tunnel having already lost 4 games this season. Their next game is a Carabao cup fixture away at Burnley before they host Manchester United in the League.
The red derby between Manchester United and Liverpool saw history being made. Liverpool dismantled Manchester United 5-0 at Old Trafford. Jurgen Klopp’s men made United look like a Championship side with Naby Keita scoring the first goal just 5 minutes after the start. Diogo Jota doubled their lead after a huge defensive error by Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw. Mohamed Salah then rubbed salt in their wounds by scoring a hat-trick to make it 5-0. Cristiano Ronaldo did score a goal but it was ruled out by VAR for offside. VAR once again intervened 8 minutes later as substitute Paul Pogba was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Naby Keita. Manchester United have already been knocked out of the League Cup so they will have some time to reflect on the defeat before travelling away to Tottenham. Liverpool are looking unbeatable at this moment. Their next Carabao cup fixture against Preston will be a good time for Jurgen Klopp to rest some players before their League clash against Brighton.
