La Liga Review: Real Madrid edge Barcelona to win 4th straight El Clasico; Atlético salvage a point against La Real

(Football news) The La Liga is in full flow with Real Sociedad on top of the table, 1 point above Real Madrid who have a game in hand. Atletico Madrid are just about 4th on the table while Barcelona have hit a new low as they sit on the 9th spot after 9 games.

Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2-1 to make it 4 El Clasico wins in a row for the Los Blancos. David Alaba broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute with a sublime finish. The Austrian made a forward run from his center back position during a counter attack to score his first Real Madrid goal in his El Clasico debut. Barcelona struggled to create enough clear cut chances. Lucas Vazquez secured the 3 points with a goal in the 2nd half injury time. Sergio Aguero did manage to pull a goal back but it was too little too late for the Blaugrana.

Barcelona right back Oscar Mingueza was absolutely destroyed by Vinicius Jr. Despite not being directly involved in any goals, Vinicius was the man of the match. It was his pinpoint cross field ball that led to Alaba's goal. Mingueza couldn't deal with the pace and quick feet of the Brazilian and was subsequently subbed off at half time. Barcelona's midfield was all over the place and didn't offer anything to the game which forced the full backs to come forward which eventually left spaces for Vinicius and Rodrygo to run into. The defeat will hurt Barcelona which again raises questions about Ronald Koeman and whether he is the right man for the job. Both the teams have midweek clashes in the league. Barcelona play away at Rayo Vallecano while Real Madrid host Osasuna.

Atletico Madrid repeated almost exactly what happened against Liverpool as they went 2-0 down against Real Sociedad at the Wanda Metropolitano. Alexander Sorloth opened the scoring in the 7th minute after being set up by Alexander Isak who then scored one of his own in the 48th minute. Atletico did manage to fight back with Luis Suarez at the center of the action. The striker scored a header in the 61st minute from a Joao Felix cross. 17 minutes later, he scored from the spot to make it 2-2. No team managed to get the winner but in the end it was a very good result for La Real as the point kept them at the top of the table for the time being. Diego Simeone is not the kind of manager whose team concedes a lot of goals and the manager has a lot to reflect on and find out what is wrong. Atletico will travel away to Levante on Thursday in search of 3 points.
