Newcastle to explore the possibility of signing Alexander Isak

(Football news) Newcastle are reportedly interested in signing Swedish youngster Alexander Isak. The Tyneside club recently had a big money takeover and they will have a lot of money to spend. The problem for Newcastle is that signing Isak would require them to spend their entire budget on the player. Isak has a release clause of £75m but Sociedad might settle for around £50m after negotiations. Newcastle spent big in January and now FFP rules will not allow them to spend much in this window. The Magpies have already signed Nick Pope, Sven Botman and Matt Targett in this window.

Newcastle already have Callum Wilson and Chris Wood as striker options. Isak is definitely a better option than both of them as he has shown in La Liga. He was a key player for Sweden in the Euro 2020 where he caught the eye of football fans all over the world. Isak burst onto the scene with Swedish club AIK where he was dubbed as the new Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He caught the attention of a number of clubs including Real Madrid. The striker secured his big move to Borussia Dortmund in 2017 at the age of 18. He didn't start playing regular football until 2019 when Real Sociedad snapped him up. Now he has scored 32 goals for La Real in over 100 appearances for the club.

Newcastle will have to stretch things to sign Isak but he will be worth it. Wilson's fitness will always be an issue while Chris Wood isn't consistent enough. Isak isn't the kind of player who will score 15 goals in a season but he will have an impact on the game. He is technically very solid and is good in link up play which will be something that would work well especially because Newcastle have Allan Saint-Maximin. He isn't a typical target man but someone who drifts onto the wings to create space and chances. Isak is a bright young prospect and it is somewhat surprising that no big club has yet snapped him from Real Sociedad.
