Napoli beat Lazio to reclaim the lead in the Serie A standings

(Football news) Napoli beat Lazio 2-1 after Fabian Ruiz scored with virtually the last kick of the game. Lazio dominated the match for long spells in the first half and should have taken the lead early on but Luis Alberto fired wide from a good position. Napoli did improve after the break, with Lorenzo Insigne firing his side into the lead in the 62nd minute.

Lorenzo Insigne thought he had added a second goal only to see his finish being ruled out for offside after VAR intervened. Lazio then  came back strongly and that setback looked like it would prove costly when Pedro lashed home the equaliser two minutes from time. The drama was not finished there as Fabian Ruiz scored with an exquisite finish four minutes into stoppage time to snatch a very important victory for Napoli. This result meant that Napoli moved to the top of the standings above AC Milan, who are level on points but have a worse goal difference. Lazio dropped to seventh.

Both teams crashed out of the Europa League midweek and both teams wanted a positive result for their fans. After the match Spalletti appreciated his players by saying, “I am confident because we have quality and play great football. These players have worked so hard to get here because so many things have happened to us, like the Africa Cup of Nations. he reaction to Pedro's goal, which can take your strength away, shows what a great team we are. These are the values and strength of Napoli, we can do great things."
