Marcelo close to retirement 4 months after confirming Real Madrid exit

(Football news) In May, Real Madrid fans were over the moon as Los Blancos had won the Champions League and La Liga. There was also a sense of sadness as club captain and fan favourite Marcelo announced that he will not be renewing his Real Madrid and left the club. Almost 4 months later, despite being linked with a lot of clubs, Marcelo is yet to officially sign a contract. Reports in Spain now suggest that the full back isn't impressed with any of the offers on his table and would prefer to retire and focus on his businesses. There are still 14 days left till the transfer window shuts down but as of now there are no concrete reports on any negotiations for Marcelo.

Marcelo is 34 years of age and hasn't played regularly for the past 3 seasons. Despite that there would be plenty of clubs who are interested in his services. Between 2015 and 2018, the Brazilian was arguably the best left back in the world. Even though he is way past his prime now, the quality is still there. The few times he did play for Real Madrid last season he rolled back the years with some incredible attacking quality. Marseille and a few Turkish clubs are said to be interested in Marcelo but the negotiations haven't progressed. The Brazilian has already said that he doesn't want to go into coaching or anything related to football after retirement. He owns a few businesses which are said to interest him the most.

It will be a sad day for football if Marcelo does hang up his boots. Apart from being an excellent player he was also entertaining to all the fans as he always played with a smile on his face. His love for Real Madrid was more than most legends that played for the club. He came to Madrid as a teenager and left as the most decorated player in the club's history. Just like his idol Roberto Carlos, Marcelo could become the ambassador of Real Madrid if he does decide to retire from professional football.
