Manchester United’s Anthony Martial set to join Sevilla on loan

(Football news) Spanish football club Sevilla have reached an agreement with Manchester United to sign Anthony Martial on loan until the end of the season. The club are expected to pay Martial’s wages in full and the 26 year old is expected to fly from Paris to Seville today and undergo a medical. The Frenchman appeared to be keen on moving to the club, despite interest from FC Barcelona and Juventus as he believes he will get maximum opportunities to get regular playing time there.

Having joined Manchester United from Monaco as the most expensive teenager in the world in 2015, Martial has scored 79 goals in 269 appearances at the club. However, with the signings of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and the presence of Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood, the Frenchman hasn’t featured for the team as much as he would have liked and a move away should suit all parties involved.

Martial has only started four times this season and fell out of favor with both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the current interim manager Ralf Rangnick with the German manager going as far as to say that he refused to travel with the squad for their match against Aston Villa on January 15th. After the match, Rangnick said “He (Martial) didn't want to be in the squad. He would have been in the squad normally but he didn't want to and that was the reason why he didn't travel with us.” The claim was dismissed by the 26 year old who took to social media and said “I will never refuse to play a match for Man Utd. I've been here for seven years and I have never disrespected and will never disrespect the club and the fans."

Back in December, Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley said to the press “Anthony wishes to leave the club in January. He just needs to play. He doesn't want to stay in January and I will speak to the club soon.” Sevilla are currently second in the La Liga table, four points behind Real Madrid and the club have agreed to pay a fee of €6m (£5m) to Manchester United and Martial’s £150,000-a-week salary to avail his services.
