Jamshedpur FC close to League Shield victory after win over Odisha

(Football news) Jamshedpur FC went one step closer to securing the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) Winner’s Shield after an emphatic 5-1 win over Odisha FC at the Athletic Stadium in Bambolim on Friday. Goals from Daniel Chima Chukwu (23’, 26’), Ritwik Das (54’), Jordan Murray (71’) and Ishan Pandita (87’) secured the three points for The Red Miners will Odisha managed to find a consolation goal through Paul Ramfangzauva (45+1’). Only one match remains between Jamshedpur FC and ATK Mohun Bagan and The Red Miners need to avoid defeat to become winners of the league stage.

Odisha FC suffered an early setback when Aridai Cabrera was forced to be substituted due to injury. For Jamshedpur FC, Greg Stewart played an important role in the first goal as his freekick hit the crossbar and fell to Daniel Chima Chukwu who scored from the rebound. Things got worse for Odisha FC after that as Paul Ramfangzauva made a mistake in the final third and was dispossessed by Chukwu who scored his second goal in the 26th minute. With the game increasingly looking like slipping out of Odisha FC’s hands, the Kalinga Warriors managed to score a goal of their own through Paul Ramfangzauva at the end of the first half.

Odisha FC displayed an improved performance in the second half as they tried to score an equaliser. However, The Red Miners managed to extend their lead through Ritwik Das in the 54th minute when the winger combined with Stewart, latching on the through ball and shooting in the bottom right corner. It became worse for Odisha FC from then onwards with Jordan Murray scoring the fourth goal for Jamshedpur FC in the 71st minute while Jonathas was shown a second yellow card for ‘unsportsmanlike behaviour’ and the Kalinga Warriors were reduced to 10 men. To add to their miseries, Jamshedpur FC scored their fifth goal through Ishan Pandita in the 87th minute to wrap up a five star performance.

Jamshedpur FC will face ATK Mohun Bagan in a highly anticipated top of the table clash on Monday, 7th March at the Fatorda Stadium while Odisha FC’s Indian Super League campaign has come to an end.
