Erling Haaland continues to fire as Man City defeat 10 man Wolves

(Football news) Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City defeated 10 man Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux Stadium to remain within touching distance of league leaders Arsenal. The match had scarcely begun when Jack Grealish found the back of the net in the very first minute before Erling Haaland doubled City’s advantage in the 28th minute with his 11th goal of the season in just seven appearances for his new club. To make matters worse for the hosts, Nathan Collins was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Grealish in the 33rd minute, which meant that Wolves had to play with 10 men for almost an hour.

Phil Foden capitalised on an assist by Kevin de Bruyne in the 69th minute to ensure that Manchester City remained unbeaten in the Premier League so far after a far more convincing performance than their win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. In team news, Wolves manager Bruno Lage made one change to the starting lineup that featured against Southampton with Goncalo Guedes replacing the injured Sasa Kalajdzic while Pep Guardiola made three changes. Ruben Dias replaced Nathan Ake, Bernardo Silva came in for Ilkay Gundogan, while Phil Foden started ahead of Riyad Mahrez.

Speaking after the match, Jack Grealish said "I did enjoy it. It has been a long time coming, I have not scored since the West Ham game last season so it is nice to get off the mark this season and do it so early. It is a difficult place to come against a top, top team. They are so underrated this Wolves team. I should be scoring more and getting more assists. The only thing I can do is that and I am going to have people talking about me for the money I was bought for but if you look at my career, at Aston Villa I only got a few goals and assists in the Premier League." Speaking about Grealish’s performance, Pep Guardiola said “He played really good and strong, a good goal arriving there. He doesn't lose the ball and a good performance for me. Hopefully he can continue in the national team and come back fit."
