Enis Bardhi’s last minute penalty earns Levante a draw a against champions Atlético Madrid

(Football news) Atlético Madrid just like their city rivals Real Madrid dropped two points away at Levante. Antoine Griezmann scored his first league goal since returning to the club while Matheus Cunha scored his first ever goal in Atletico colours.

Antoine Griezmann gave Atletico Madrid the lead just 12 minutes into the game. In the 37th minute, Luis Suarez made a clumsy foul on Ruben Vezo in the box and the referee awarded a penalty to Levante for Enis Bardhi to score. The game was on the edge for the next 30 minutes or so. Diego Simeone made a few substitutions which changed the momentum. Two of his substitutes combined as Rodrigo De Paul set up Mathius Cunha to score his first ever goal for Atletico Madrid.

Simeone was sent off by the referee shortly after for dissent. It looked like Atlético Madrid were set to take the 3 points home but VAR gave Levante a penalty in the dying minutes of the game for a handball by Cunha. Bardhi once again stepped up to bring Levante back on level terms. The referee decided to blow the final whistle just when Levante were on the break much to the disappointment of the home fans. Rober was shown a second yellow card for protesting after the full time whistle.

This was Atletico Madrid's 4th draw in the La Liga this season. They are currently 6th in the table, 5 points behind league leaders Real Sociedad with a game in hand. Their next game is against Real Bettis at home after which they will travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool in the UCL.
