Bundesliga: Bayern extend their lead at the top as both Dortmund and Wolfsburg lose

(Football news) Bayern Munich have opened a three point lead over Bayer Leverkusen as Dortmund and Wolfsburg both suffered shock defeats this week. Bayern already look like running away with the league as they are thrashing teams left right and centre.

Bayern won comfortably 3-1 against newly promoted side Fruth, Nagelsman’s side were at their rampant best. In the first half, goals from Thomas Muller and Kimmich meant that they had already wrapped the three points before the first half ended but a renewed Fruth put together a rare attack which resulted in Pavard getting a straight red card. Although Bayern were 10 men down for most of the second half, they confirmed the three points with an own goal from Griesbeck, Fruth did manage to score late through Itten as it was a mere consolation for them. With this result Bayern are on top with 16 points and a superior goal difference of 18

Dortmund lost 1-0 to Monchengladbach in an unhappy return to Borussia Park for Marco Rose. In the first half, the absence of Erling Haaland and Marco Reus showed, Gladbach were dominating them and they were awarded for the constant pressure as Dennis Zakaria opened the scoring in the 37th minute, things went bad to worse as Dahoud picked up his second yellow card for late tackle on US defender Joe Scally. Dortmund squandered the chance to grab an equaliser as Thorgan Hazard missed a glorious opportunity to equalise late in the second half. With this result Dortmund dropped to 4th in the table with 13 points.

Wolfsburg lost their unbeaten start to the season as they lost 3-1 to Hoffenheim. Wolfsburg started the first half really brightly as they opened the scoring through a long range shot from Ridle Baku but slowly and steadily Hoffenheim got into the game, Kramaric then equalised just before the half ended. In the second half it was all Hoffenhiem as goals from Baumgartner and Kaderabek put a seal on wonderful performance from them. With this result Wolfsburg are now third with 13 points. “It's a shame we didn’t take the points, but Hoffenheim were very efficient – better than us in that regard,” said Marco Van Bommel after the game.

RB Leipzig were back to winning ways as they thrashed Hertha Berlin 6-0, Jesse Marsch would breathe a sigh of relief, after three defeats in five matches a victory was much needed for them. The American made changes up front as he replaced Poulsen with struggling striker Andre Silva, Poulsen linked up with Nkunku in deadly fashion to cause havoc in the Hertha back line. Nkunku was arguably the man of the match as he scored two as well as assisted two, while Poulsen, Forseberg and Haidara were all on the scoresheet. With this result Leipzig moved to 10th with 7 points.
