(Football news) Michael Keane scored a 90th minute equaliser while Harry Kane converted a penalty as Everton earned a hard fought 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Monday that saw both teams finish with 10 men. Everton fans jumped over advertising boards to celebrate Keane’s brilliant striker that subsequently took their team out of the relegation zone and also stopped Tottenham from moving to third place in the Premier League table.

Harry Kane converted a penalty in the 68th minute for his 22nd goal of the Premier League season after a foul by Keane on Romero. England captain Kane was being booed every time he touched the ball because of his major role in the sending off of Abdoulaye Doucoure in the 58th minute. Kane fell on the ground after being struck in the face by Doucoure as the two grappled each other in an off-the-ball incident.

Sean Dyche thought that Kane made too much of an incident which saw Doucoure lash out at the England captain after it appeared that they grabbed each other’s shirts following a rash challenge. Tottenham on the other hand couldn’t take advantage of the extra man, with Everton growing in confidence they finished the game much stronger after Spurs were also reduced to 10 men when substitute Lucas Moura was shown a straight red card for a studs-up challenge on Keane’s ankle in the 89th minute.

Tottenham after this match climbed to fourth place but they will see it as two points dropped. Spurs are level on points with Newcastle United and fifth-placed Manchester United, but have played two games more than their rivals. Everton climbed up three places to 15th, but are only a point above the relegation zone with nine games remaining. For the first time in the Premier league, play was paused midway through the first half so that three Everton players in Doucoure, Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye could break their fast.

“I am buzzing,” Keane said. “You won’t believe but I do hit the ball like that every now and again in training. To see one come off is amazing. After giving away the penalty to make up for it, I am buzzing.”

“[Keane] has been in fine form,” Dyche said. “On the training pitch, he’s been training with clarity and showed his quality. I think the whole stadium thought we would get a winner. I know I did.”

“It is another step in the right direction,” Dyche said. “It is only a point, but is a meaningful point. The mentality is going from strength to strength.”
