Everton beat Bournemouth 1-0 to avoid relegation

Sean Dyche has managed to keep Everton in the Premier League but there are still changes needed

(Football news) Everton beat Bournemouth 1-0 to keep their Premier League status. Sean Dyche was forced to make 2 changes to the line-up that drew against Wolves. Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Nathan Patterson were unavailable due to injury as Demarai Gray and Conor Coady came into the line-up. The match was totally end to end as both teams had a few really good chances. Everton missed quite a few opportunities to break the deadlock. Abdoulaye Doucoure got the only goal of the match in the 57th minute with an incredible volley. Jordan Pickford pulled off a couple of incredible saves to keep a clean sheet for Everton.

The Toffees have just about avoided relegation for the 2nd season in a row. While that provides great entertainment it isn’t ideal for a club of Everton’s size. The Toffees were last relegated from the top flight in the 1950/51 season which was way before the Premier League started. Everton alongside Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur are the only clubs to have never been relegated from the Premier League since it’s inception in 1992. If Everton had gone down then it would’ve been a massive upset.

Manager Sean Dyche after the game “We shouldn’t be celebrating this, we’re Everton Football Club”. The Toffes need to make some massive changes to try and avoid this situation again. They belong to the top half of the table challenging for a European spot at the very least. Dyche is the right man to do so as he will make the team defensively solid. Investments will have to come in the summer to improve next season. A striker will definitely be on the top of shopping list in the transfer window.
