(Football news) VfL Wolfsburg scored twice to end Dortmund’s unbeaten run as they won 2-0 on Tuesday, which subsequently stretched their unbeaten run to seven consecutive matches and snapping BVB’s three-game winning streak. Dortmund over the past weeks had carved out a three-game winning run for the first time this season and going into the match they were in fourth place in the standings on 25 points. But it looks like Wolfsburg have turned their season around after a bad start as they moved up to eighth in the standings with 20 points. The hosts took an early lead when Micky van de Ven nodded in at the far post from a corner in the 6th minute

Dortmund tried to up the ante by putting pressure on their opponents as they came close twice to scoring  with Donyell Malen. Kobel again came to the rescue after he palmed an effort from Omar Marmoush with one hand. Raphael Guerreiro cleared the ball off the line as Wolfsburg reclaimed the upper hand in the game. The visitors hit the post in first half stoppage time with Niklas Sule. The Wolves had only managed just one point against Dortmund in their last 14 league matches and had lost their last seven home games to the Black and Yellow as they sealed their first win over Dortmund in seven years with a Lukas Nmecha stoppage time goal.

Defending champions Bayern Munich delivered an amazing first-half performance to thrash Werder Bremen 6-1 on Tuesday and open up a four-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga table. It was the Bavarian side’s fifth straight league win, which included a Serge Gnabry hat trick, equalling the Bundesliga record for the longest unbeaten run against one team, with Bayern going 26 league matches without a single defeat against Werder. They also have the second best goal scoring season in the history of the Bundesliga with 47 goals from 14 matches which is subsequently one less at the same stage in the 1976-77 season.

In-form Jamal Musiala showed brilliant composure when he sidestepped one opponent and slotted the ball with his left foot. It was his ninth league goal of the season as Bayern met Werder for a record 111th time. The visitors drew level with Anthony Jung as he wrongfooted keeper Manuel Neuer. The only blip in the performance was that Senegal international Sadio Mane had to leave the pitch injured after just 20 minutes, 13 days prior to the World Cup. Bayern went on a scoring spree in six dizzying minutes to kill off the game. First Gnabry curled in a superb shot in the 22nd minute before Leon Goretzka added another four minutes later.

While Gnabry then tapped in for his second goal in the 28th minute as he received a perfect assist from Leroy Sane. The former Manchester City player should have scored himself early in the second half, but he hit the post with only Jiri Pavlenka to beat as Bayern gradually eased off the pressure. Gnabry then bagged his deserved hat trick in the 82nd minute after going past four Bremen players before Mathys Tel made it half a dozen goals for Bayern with another solo effort two minutes later. They are now on 31 points which is four ahead of second-placed Freiburg as Union  face Augsburg, who are third on with 26 points.
