Napoli go 8 points clear at the top while AC Milan drop crucial points

(Football news) The runaway Serie A leaders Napoli extended their winning streak to 10 games on Tuesday when they beat Empoli 2-0 thanks to a goal and an assist from the Mexican international Hirving Lozano. Both the sides headed into the halftime break with a scoreline of 0-0 with the hosts dominating the first 45 minutes, while Empoli never came close to creating a clear chance. Napoli finally broke the deadlock when Lozano coolly converted a penalty in the 70th minute afterRazvan Marin tripped Victor Osimhen inside the box.

Eventually Empoli's luck ran out when Sebastiano Luperto was sent off after he picked up his second yellow card for tripping Lozano in the 74th minute. Lozano then found Pitor Zielinski with an inch perfect ross who found the net with one touch in the 88th minute. Napoli are now sitting comfortably at the top of the table with 38 points after 14 games, eight points ahead of AC Milan in second place.

AC Milan were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw to Cremonese on Tuesday as Stefano Pioli's men wasted a lot of clear-cut chances to score. Both the teams sat back in the opening stages before the Rossoneri started dominating possession. However, neither team found the net in the first half despite creating several chances. Milan youngster Brahim Diaz tried to slide in a cross for Junior Messias but the ball sailed over the bar at the 23rd minute mark. Milan had another golden opportunity two minutes later, but Croatian international Ante Rebic miscalculated his header as the ball bounced wide.

Milan continued the same intensity of  pressure in the second half, with Origi being denied after he was ruled offside by VAR. Rebic again came close again to giving Milan the lead with a header after 68 minutes, but the Cremonese goalkeeper Carnesecchi managed to brilliantly tip the ball away. Cremonese could have done the cliched smash and grab as they almost snatched victory four minutes into stoppage time when Cristian Buonaiuto got the ball inside the box, but his shot subsequently went straight into the arms of Ciprian Tatarusanu. Milan are second in the standings with 30 points from 14 games and are now eight points adrift of leaders Napoli while Cremonese stayed in the relegation spots as they are 18th on seven points.
