(Football news) The game started slowly but picked up steam as three Gabriels found the scoresheet: Gabriel Martinelli gave Arsenal the lead in the 20th minute, but Gabriel Osho cancelled it out five minutes later. Gabriel Jesus then gave Arsenal the lead again at the end of the half.

After the intermission, Luton completely changed the course of the match with two goals each from Elijah Adebayo and Ross Barkley in eight minutes. However, their lead was short lived, as Kai Havertz equalized with thirty minutes remaining.

As a determined Luton team believed they had done enough to salvage a point, Declan Rice hammered home a thrilling game-winning header for Arsenal in the 97th minute. The Gunners were pressing for a winner in the closing minutes of play.

The team led by Mikel Arteta has solidified their position atop the Premier League standings, sitting five points ahead of second-place Liverpool, who take on bottom team Sheffield United on Wednesday.

With Newcastle United taking on 18th-place Everton on Thursday, Luton finds itself three points above the relegation zone and still in 17th place in the top division league.

It should come as no surprise that Luton, who set up well from the start and kept the visitors from scoring in the final third, prevented Arsenal from getting off to a slow start against a team that has only scored in the first fifteen minutes of one of their previous 14 Premier League games this season.

Actually, neither team had a chance on goal in the first 19 minutes of play. However, a minute later, Luton created a situation for themselves that resulted in Martinelli’s first goal, which he tucked away from about 10 yards out.

Jesus was the quickest to react after Luton goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski cleared the ball into touch. He swiftly flung it into the path of Bukayo Saka, who was playing for Arsenal for the 200th time. Saka drew the ball back towards Martinelli, who finished for the first time, rolling it into the bottom-left corner.

But five minutes later, Osho found space in a packed penalty box and headed a strong header past David Raya after Alfie Doherty’s outswinging corner had put the Hatters back on level terms.

A few minutes later, Jesus nearly gave Arsenal the lead again, but Kaminski was alert at his near post to turn the Brazilian’s attempt behind for a corner that eventually resulted in nothing.
