David Warner Withdraws from the Australia-India T20 Series: Reasons and Impact

(Cricket News) Australia opener David Warner has pulled out from the five-match T20 series against India, starting from Thursday. Warner, who was Australia’s leading run-scorer with 535 at 48.63 during their successful World Cup campaign has been replaced by all-rounder Aaron Hardie. “Selectors decided Warner would return home on the back of a successful yet demanding World Cup campaign,” Cricket Australia said in a statement.

Warner declared last week that he would not accept a contract with CA for 2024–2025 but that he would be available for the T20 World Cup in the United States and the Caribbean the following year, as well as maybe the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan in 2025.

Due to Warner’s withdrawal, just seven players from Australia’s World Cup-winning ODI team—Sean Abbott, Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Smith, Marcus Stoinis, and Adam Zampa—as well as backup spinner Tanveer Sangha—will be playing in India. For the duration of the series, Matthew Wade will captain Australia.
